Melissa Szydlek lives in the United States. Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she survived Detroit for many years and has settled into a quieter life in North Carolina with her husband and two dogs. She is an avid animal rights activist and dedicated vegetarian.

She is a Ph.D. Candidate in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. With her dog, Artie (a certified Therapy Dog and AKC Canine Good Citizen) she visits nursing facilities and soldiers to bring comfort through animal-assisted therapy.
